Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before getting started

We start with an initial meeting with one of our accountants to better understand your business, confirm we're the right fit, and discuss the services you need and how we'll work together. From there, we'll review your files and prepare a fixed-fee engagement proposal. Once you're happy to proceed, our admin team handles the transition onto our systems so we can hit the ground running. Please note — we're unable to provide accounting advice to general enquiries outside of an established client relationship.

Absolutely. We work alongside bookkeepers all the time and see it as a great arrangement. Your bookkeeper handles the day-to-day data entry and reconciliations, and we step in at the accounting level — reviewing the numbers, managing your BAS, tax returns, and compliance. A good bookkeeper makes our job easier and keeps your costs down. If you ever need a recommendation, we're happy to point you in the right direction too.

Of course. We respect existing relationships and will always work collaboratively with your broker. That said, if you ever want a second opinion or need a broker who understands the accounting side of your finances — particularly for self-employed clients, SMSFs, or complex structures — our in-house finance team is here. Having your accountant and broker under one roof does make things significantly smoother, but it's entirely your call.

Our focus is on companies, trusts, and partnerships — as well as people who are starting a business and want to set it up properly from day one. If you're looking to move away from operating as a sole trader and structure your business correctly, we'd love to help with that transition. We're not the right fit for ongoing sole trader accounting.

We work on fixed fees, so there are no surprise bills. After our initial meeting we'll review your situation and provide a clear, itemised proposal before any work begins. You'll always know exactly what you're paying for.

Not at all. We work with clients across Queensland and beyond. Most of our communication is done via email, phone, and video call, with secure document sharing through our online portal. If you're local to Brendale, you're always welcome to come in.

We're Xero specialists. All of our clients are set up on Xero, and we can help you get started if you're not already on it — including a 1-on-1 onboarding session to get you comfortable with the platform.

Yes — and you're not alone. We regularly help clients get back on track with outstanding lodgements. Here's how we handle it: we review all the work required and provide a fixed-fee quote upfront so you know exactly what's involved. For multiple years of catch-up work, we require a deposit before we begin — given the time involved — with the balance payable prior to lodgement once everything is complete. The sooner you reach out, the better we can manage any ATO exposure. We'll work through it with you without judgement.

A bookkeeper manages your day-to-day transactions — recording income, expenses, and reconciling your bank accounts. An accountant works at a higher level — reviewing those numbers, preparing your tax returns, managing compliance, and providing strategic advice. Both are valuable; they just serve different roles.
